Speed Camp To Do's: Athletes

Racers:

I hope the last two weeks have treated you well and you are getting prepared for Speed Week. This post is meant to remind you of a few things leading into this week's training.

Please be sure that you are well rested and have had proper meals and nutrition going into the week. This is not the week for late nights and poor nutrition. Get to bed early and fill up on high energy foods (pasta's).

Make sure that you have all equipment needed by this weekend including:
Skis (tuned and ready to go), Poles (extra baskets), Skin Suit, Warm up clothes, Goggles (Clear Lenses), Helmet.
You also should have some cool down clothes for stretching, water bottles and snacks every day. This is a huge week and you need to take advantage of all you can. You will need to be on the hill as much as possible so avoid going into the shack if it becomes a problem you may find the door LOCKED..... This is an opportunity that many racers don't get at their home mountain.

Rien will be back on Sunday and we will have a team meeting following the nets being set up. Train hard Saturday (Slalom) with Coach John as that will be your last opportunity for technical training prior to the race next weekend. Transitition from Speed to Technical has it's difficulties.

Think good weather and have a good last few days at school......

Please contact Gregor Byrne for the following FIS Events etc.

Hello All. . .Please find below the race notice for the FIS Super Series Speed Week at MSA the first week of Feb. . . . . .This eventconsists of SG,SC and DH events. . . . . .I'm planning to go and take Atlantic Canadian FIS athletes that are interested and have Speed experience. If you have athletes that are interested please let me know ASAP.This event is for Male and Female athletes.

We are also looking at doing the : Male GS races at Stowe March 17,18

Mens and Women's SG at Burke Mtn March 19th and 20th

Men's and women's Spring Series at Le Relais and Stoneham Quebec March 26th to March 31st 2 X GS, 2 X SL

We may also look at doing the final Canadian FIS race of the year at Nakiska Alberta that is a Men's and Women's GS and SL on the Saturday and Sunday of Easter weekend (no school missed) if there is interest.

Please advise. . . . .

Cheers. . . .Gregor Byrne

Speed Camp

Note to all athletes regarding speed camp training. Due to the nature of this training it is recommended that athletes have Speed Skis for this event. In discussions with Richard Lepage Mike, Gregor and I are looking at the following recommendations:

K1 - anything other that Slalom skis for this season
K2 - GS with a minimum turning radius of 21m.
J1-J2 - appropriate SG Skis.

It is recommended that all K2 athletes have SG skis as these are safer due to the set of the course. Please take this into consideration when planning on training. CMRC coaches also firmly believe that athletes that do not train for SG are not prepared to compete in this event.

Also note that this camp is Mon-Wed.
The Thursday is exclusive for those not in the camp. Once again this is a safety consideration and preparing athletes for the speed of SG.

Please contact me with any concerns, we will do our best to find skis that will work for all athletes, ebay, allumni etc are all possibilities to alleviate the large cost out.

Thanks Rien

I took this picture at Sainte-Anne Dec 5, 2008. The enthousiasm of this coach Michele Leger, coaching the kids attracted my attention. After giving the task to each racer she added "have fun!" WOW! to her, mixing of training with the pleasure of the glide.

Racer Night at SkiWolf

Hey everyone,
October 30 there will be no Dry land as the school is having a dance, so we will be having a racer night at SkiWolf.
This is a great oppertunity to try on sizes and get some assistance in choosing new gear. I know some of you have already made arrangements and that is great. But for those that are still in need of gear please come to SkiWolf between 7:00pm and 8:30 Oct 30.
Not really necessary but if you wanted to let me now if you will be coming and what you think you might need would be great.

Thanks
Michele

K1 Wentworth Race

CMRC had 4 K1 athletes and 4 Entry athletes at the Wentworth race this past weekend. The conditions were a challenge for then with more "slippery" stuff then we have had at Crabbe in years. However, they all handled it with great athletic skill and determination.
Our athletes climbed onto the podium twice, with Ariana Marquis(K1) taking a third place bronze in the first slalom on Sunday and Leland Morehouse of the Entry group taking second in the Kombi Saturday afternoon.
All the athletes worked hard and represented CMRC and themselves very well. We are very proud of everyone.

Use of Mouth Guard

CMRC is now suggesting to all parents and athletes that athletes wear a mouth guard for training and for all races. Research suggests that the use of this equipment greatly reduces the chances of concusion from impact related falls. In the near future CMRC will be moving to mandatory use of these but wanted to allow time for athletes to try options.

Option one : Boil and bite (available at most Sport Stores)
Optino Two: Dental Prepared (more expensive but better fit and breathing).

Suit Order

Suits are available for a re-order. Sizes available immediately are 8-10 and 12 (small sizes) and may be able to trade with someone who wants a smaller size. Check around club. IF you want to order larger they will make them, cost slightly more $280.00 instead of $200.00 and will take about 4-6 weeks but I think they make the team look great and would really like to have all in the suits.....

J1/J2 Race Notice

Helmet Rules

It was requested of us to look into the ACA helmet rule for non FIS races. After internal discussion and discussion with the CSA with respect to insurance, we must inform you that ACA’s stance on this is that helmet use for all non FIS events must conform with FIS standards.

FIS RULE:
New & Addition: Art. 707, 807, 907, 1007 - Crash helmets All competitors and forerunners are obliged to wear a crash helmet that conforms to the competition equipment specification.
Helmets used in FIS Snowsports shall be specifically designed and manufactured for the respective discipline and shall bear a CE mark and conform to recognized and appropriate standards such as CEEH. Din 1077 or US 2040, ASTM F2040, SNELL S98 or RS98, etc.

Please check your son/daughters helmet for these codes. IF you can not find it on the helmets check on line with the helmet dealer or contact your local ski shop. Most helmets I have examined are okay. It will be rare to not have the proper certification.

We are also looking into rules and recommendations on Chin Guards for Slalom and "Boil/Bite" mouth guards for training and racing.

Have a great weekend at Crabbe while we are at Mount Sainte Anne....66 trails open.....whoo hoo.
