RACE NOTICE
I know that there seems to be little or no snow around but our first Race Notice has arrived. The first official race is scheduled for Jan 6/7 at Poley Mountain. This race is for all K2-Up athletes. I need to have an accurate number of participants to send to Poley. Please forward your intentions to me as soon as possible. I would also like to know if and which weeks you will be attending the holiday training. Although it is not mandatory to be at every day of training those planning to race at the first race need to attend as many days as possible. Please see the Training Schedule email to determine what days you plan to attend.
Thanks and have a good last week of school. Training will start on Sat/Sun if the loop is open at Crabbe. Athletes are asked to meet Rien at the race shack at 10:00 a.m. Saturday Morning.

K1 and Entry Program Information
This note is for parents of Entry 8-10 and K1 11-12 Year Olds. The program this year will continue to focus on the Husky Snow Stars Program and levels. Athletes will be focused on achieving Level 6-7 by the time they leave K1 and Enter K2. This is based on the new CSCF and ACA model of Trainability and key ages for success. Lots can be learned about this program from the new website http://www.vivatexte.com/eprep/cscf/husky/ss_home_alt.htm This website is designed for parents and coaches for help with the snow stars program. Please feel free to check it out and email any questions to me.
I will be sending a copy of the Christmas Training and New Years Training Schedule to parents on Monday. Coaches are meeting this weekend to discuss.
We are also looking at alternatives for New Years week if the weather doesn't cooperate but of course we are all thinking snow.....right everyone :)

Christmas Camps and Races
As Christmas fast approaches it is very important to start determining what athletes will be doing and which events they will be attending. I will begin the process of contacting all athletes to find out their plans for Christmas and the new year. If you could email or call me to let me know what your plans are it would be a huge start. We are having two camps this Christmas: Christmas Camp Dec 27-31st and New Years Camp Jan2-4th. The Christmas Camp will focus on Fundamentals and starting the season. The New Years Camp will focus more on K2-Up for the Race that following weekend. I also need to know which athletes will be attending the first race at Poley Mountain on the 6-7 of January. I would suggest booking your rooms in advance of Christmas as it will fill up quickly. (The Amsterdam is our usual hotel) I know that this is a busy time of year for all but attendance at Dry Land, Camps and Races early in the season will definetly have a huge impact on your race results.
Thanks and have a Merry Christmas

Dry Land Begins
Tuesday was our first night of Dry Land, thanks to Michele and Lauren who have started our dry land season and for Arianna, Michelle, Cyril and Scott for participating in our first night. We are looking forward to a great year of dry land with an updated program. We will also be providing athletes with a copy of the program to use on their own if they can not attend dry land at this time. This year we have also purchased our own dry land equipment which should really boost our program.
Please note that Athletes will be required to bring materials to Dry land and should get used to watching the Blog for notice. Starting next week athletes are asked to bring a Towel, Water Bottle and Journal Book to Dry Land. Athletes will need these three things every week. Lauren will be working with athletes on the importance and use of journals and for reasons you can already imagine you may need a towel and some water.
Thanks and have a great Turkey Weekend!!

Memorial Race a GO!!
Just a note to all that the Memorial race is on for tomorrow morning first thing. We are hoping to start by 9:30 to avoid slushy conditions. Grab those old race skis and downhill suits....wait maybe some of you should avoid the downhill suits :) and come on out for some great fun.
We will also be closing the shack up on Sunday so all skis etc must be out by Sunday afternoon as the power is going off for the season. I am hoping if it isn't raining to re-roll some of the fencing either Sunday or next weekend if we still are open for skiing. Please come out and lend a helping hand.
Another glorious late spring day is upon us in late March.....go grab some rays and enjoy the day.

Thanks to Darryl that found this awesome link. This one is for parents, racers, coaches etc that want to understand the how's and why's. It also has some great video footage along with it. It also starts to deal with concepts such as boot fitting, course inspection and variety of other technique oriented questions. Check it out for sure.

A big Success at Crabbe
To all Crabbe Mountain Ski Racers and Parents:
I am writing this on Monday morning while listening to the first run of GS from the Olympics. What a run from JF Bourque from a small place near Restigouche!
Many thanks to absolutely everyone for the work over the weekend to make the ski races happen. To say the least, we were challenged by the weather. Rain on Friday and bitter cold on Saturday and Sunday certainly took a lot of the fun away from it but I never heard an athlete complain. Our athletes shared the newly renovated race shack with other athletes from other clubs and it all worked out. We had help from other clubs to make it happen. Dan’s system of pairing gatekeepers was super, thanks Dan! We should remember their help when we visit other races; I know I will be gate keeping at Wentworth if they need me to.
Mandy made the front page of the local paper; I can’t ever remember seeing that happen. Hannah had a color picture in the sports section. Thanks to the Gleaner and Dave Smith who I am sure he had some influence in this happening.
I have to go to work but thanks again to everyone who helped in any role because every role is essential for a successful ski race!
Mel

2006 Crabbe Speed Camp Correction
Cost is $105.00/athlete for Crabbe Racers.
Depending on what terrain is open we may or may not be able to do a complete Race Simulation tomorrow. Training will still be Slalom on Saturday and G.S. on Sunday with a long course. We will attempt to have the timing set up as well. At least for the second run on Saturday.
thanks and see you all tomorrow.

Cancellation Notice
Due to the Freezing Rain this morning and the continued Rain this afternoon Wednesday Night Race Training is Cancelled for this week. Regular Race training will continue on Saturday and Sunday.
Monday, January 16, 2006
January 16-22nd
Dryland training times have changed. I believe it is now 7:00-8:30 which does mean we will have less Entry level and K1 athletes due to the time. K2 and up are still expected to complete as much dryland as possible.
Wednesday looks like a little warm weather but not nearly what was called for earlier in the week and with the cold weather today and tomorrow they should be able to blow enough snow to help the Horn. Wednesday training is a go as normal.
Saturday and Sunday will be GS/SL accordingly with a demonstration of ski tuning at 11:00a.m. in the race hut followed by a pot luck lunch. The weather looks warm again but training days are far and few between so turnout is important.
COMMIT YOURSELF TO YOUR RACING
When you are on course, there is no room for being tentative. If you let up or back off going in the middle of a run, you are going to be in trouble. At best, you will be slow. At worst, you will fall and could injure yourself. One of the most important things you must do when they get into the starting gate is to be totally committed to going as fast and hard as you can.

ATTENTION K1
The Race at Poley this weekend has been cancelled due to the WEATHER. Contact was made today by Brian Belyea that due to the rain and continual deterioration of the hill racing is not possible. We will be training at Crabbe Weather Permitting. Please bring suitable rain gear. Due to the limited days of training we must Make Every Day Count. I will update this in case of hill closure.
Thanks Rien.

This Weeks TIP
To start you on your way towards better mental
preparation, ask yourself the following five questions before each run.
1. What is my goal for this run? (e.g., be aggressive, run a straighter line)
2. What is my focus for this run? (e.g., keep my arms in front)
3. Can I see myself doing it? (use imagery to mentally practice what you want to
achieve)
4. Am I at my optimal intensity level? (Am I too psyched up? Too relaxed?)
5. Am I committed to making this run? (Will I give it 100% and fight all the way
down?)
Then, commit to MAKING EVERY RUN COUNT. You will soon notice the improvements.

If you have signed up for this race I will simply remove their name from the start list. There will still be training on Sat/Sun as usual with Marc. Thanks and sorry about the confusion.
